China began to study Land-Attacked Cruise Missile(LACM) since the Gulf War. The picture you see is from the latest issue of Flight Int'l of China's HongNiao Tomahawk Cruise Missile that successfully hit its target 4 weeks ago. China will conduct more tests during the upcoming military drill before the celebration of the 50th anniversary. Also, HongNiao will use to send a message of Lee Deng Hui. HongNiao was derived from the KH-65SE/SD with a range of 600km. The long range HongNiao-II will have a range of 1,800km. Russia has marketed Raduga KH-65SE/SD 360-mile range cruise missile in China. The Kh-65 is a proposed short-range version of the Kh-55 3,000-kilometer-range strategic cruise missile. The Kh-55 has been in Russian service since 1984 as a nuclear-armed, air-launched cruise missile. The Kh-65SE and the Kh-55 have the same inertial and terrain-following guidance system, but the latter may also use GLONASS, a Russian precision satellite navigation system like the U.S. Global Positioning Satellite (GPA) network. Both missiles have triangular fuselage attachments which appear to hold more fuel.8 From the Kh-65SE, China had already obtained several technologies with which to build Tomahawk-like cruise missiles, such as advanced cruise missile design, engine, fuel, and guidance technology. China is also developing an airlaunched HongNiao Tomohawk-like LACM using Israeli assistance. In 1995, Flight International reported that China was providing funding to Israel for development of an air-launched cruise missile based on the Israeli Delilah anti-radiation attack drone. The report noted that China also would be a customer for the new cruise missile. The basic Delilah is a 230-mile range drone which has benefited from U.S. technology in airframe design and in its small U.S.-designed Williams J400-WR-401 engine. This missile has an accuracy of 300 feet. The new missile reportedly will be larger than the Delilah but will retain its basic configuration. It is not clear whether the larger size will allow for both a longer range and a larger payload, or just the latter. This might be provided in the recently revealed Bet Shemesh Sorek 4, which produces 800 pounds of thrust. If and when acquired, this new version of the Delilah would give the PLA a much more useful and accurate cruise missile. It also would provide advanced cruise missile technology in the areas of design, engines, fuel, and guidance.
