17. 遇到顧客換零錢,缺訓練的店員有時也會說:「我沒有零錢,你自己去想辦法!」有時顧客慢吞吞的付錢,店員還會「訓」他一句:「為什麼不把錢準備好?」而老外服務生一般都會客氣的說:
Just wait a minute. I will get some changes for you.(請等一會,我去換些零錢。)
而且老外也較有耐心,通常都會一聲不響的等著,直到顧客付錢為止,不說任何話。(Wait patiently without saying anything.)
18. 許多老中還未養成自動排隊的習慣,有時還會擠來擠去,推來推去,所以常聽到有人兇巴巴的說:「別推我!」 或者說:「排到後面去!」
然而老美自動排隊已成大眾習慣,插隊現象十分罕見,甚至他們還會「謙讓」地說:
If you are in a hurry, why don't you step ahead of me?(假如你趕時間,為何不排在我的前面呢?)
即使有人搶先,老外也只指著排隊的方向說:
Excuse me, the end of the line is back(down 或 over)there.(抱歉,排隊的末端是在那兒。)
19. 寫到這裡,也許有人會問:難道老美都是友善的嗎?未必。他們遇到服務不好時,也會用損人、諷刺的詞句,只是他們多能保持冷靜沉著,顯得含蓄、文明罷了。下面也舉幾個例子:
遇到公共交通工具不守時,老外也會對服務人員說:
Do your bus (train) ever run on time?(你們的公車曾經守時過嗎?)
不過最好還是說:
Do you know why the bus is late?
20. 在餐館吃飯時,發現碗裡有蒼蠅,也會對服務生說:
This fly looks extremely well-cooked. (這蒼蠅似乎煮得很熟)
最好還是說:
There is a problem with my food.
(我的食物有問題) 然後指著蒼蠅給服務生看。(then you point out the fly)
21. 遇到餐館菜不新鮮,或湯不好吃,也會諷刺一句:
How many times have you heated up this food?(這盤菜你溫熱了幾次?)
This soup tastes like dishwater. (這種湯味道像洗碗水)
其實老外通常只說:
I am sorry this dish (soup) is unsatisfactory. (抱歉,我不滿意這盤菜。)
(這時餐館都會另換一盤)
22. 如果計程車司機開得太慢,也會諷刺的說:
Can't you go faster than a snail?(難道你不能走得比蝸牛更快嗎?)
多半老外只說:
I am in a hurry. I have an important meeting in ten minutes. (我在趕時間,十分鐘內有個重要會議。)
假如計程車司機開得太快,也會說:
Do I need to take out a special accident insurance?(我需要一種特別的車禍保險嗎?)
通常只要客氣的說:
Would you mind slowing down a little bit? (請你開慢點好嗎?)
23. 買魚時,如果不新鮮,老外也許會諷刺地說:
I can see your fish are all dead, but they should be cremated!(我知道你的魚都死了,也該火化!)
其實只要問:
Are you sure your fish are fresh?(你確定你的魚很新鮮嗎?)
24. 胖子遇到餐館的桌子太小,可能會說:
Are your tables just designed for thin people?(你們的桌子只為瘦子而設計嗎?)
通常只要說:
I need more space. (我要較大的空間)
25. 遇到修理帳單太貴,老外也許會說:
This is not a repair bill; it is the national budget. (這不是修理費的帳單;這是國家預算。)
其實,只要說:
This bill is higher than I anticipated. Could you explain it to me?
(這帳單比我預計貴得多,你可否解釋一下?)
26. 如果見不到服務人員,不友善的老外,也會諷刺說:
Are your staff all running away from the asylum? (你們的員工都是從精神病院跑出來的嗎?)
其實,只要說:
Is anyone available to assist me? (有人幫我忙嗎?)
總之,使用禮貌的詞句,臉上掛著笑容,以及低聲的談吐,是較友善的表現。(Courteous words, smiling faces and soft voices are considered cordial and friendly.)在公共場合說話大聲、嗓門高,是不禮貌的。(High pitch of voices is not polite in public.)許多老外也常認為老中說話太直接,音調太高。(Chinese people are too straight-forward and direct. They seem to have loud voices.)
在人際關係中,多說「謝謝」、「抱歉」,十分重要。雖然老外表面的禮貌,有時不免令人也感到有一些虛假,但畢竟可讓人悅目賞心。不是嗎?
