Should Bargains Be Prohibited?
Perhaps all of us have some experience of buying bargains. With our country changing from central-planned economy to market economy, bargain is no longer something strange for us. However, many people have an unfair point of view for bargains, they call it shop owner’s trick, while I still think bargains do good to our lives.
Bargain is the result of the development of economy. Only adequate commodities in the market lead to bargain. People only have what meets the basic demand of daily life in 1960s because of limited and scarce product. They have to pay much more than they could offer if they want to have their living conditions improved, and of course they have no fortune to enjoy the convention of bargains.
Government also plays an important role. Without the government’s lessened control of the market, many companies or corporations couldn’t enter the competition or the permission fee is too high for them to offer, and we still won’t have bargains. Huge numbers of companies, big and small, state-owned and private, are the fundamentals of advanced, equal market economy. The government of China today is trying to bring more companies to the company, also more bargains to our lives, for that will make our life better.
Then let us take a look at those companies, which anticipate in the bargain rush. What they want is to defeat their opponents, take up more share of the market, or simply speaking, to earn more profit. If bargain is only the shop owner’s trick, it won’t bring the company any profit in the long-run competition of the market. I think bargain is one part of the company’s strategy; the aim is to give the consumers deep impression of the company or the brand, which will bring benefit to the further development of the company. So no company will take the risk of joking with the consumers, telling them the commodities are for sale but in fact they are waiting to be put away. The company is sure to come to its shut down point before long if it does that.
Those who can get most benefit from bargains are we consumers. First, we have a lot of choices before adequate commodities. We are no longer forced by the government or somebody else to buy those goods with high price and low quality. Second, we can enjoy the convenience of market competition, which means we will buy something at a relatively lower price. We can understand this point more clearly when we think of China Telecom. Before 1997,only China Telecom can provide us with telephone service, so the call fee, long distance or short distance is somewhat too expensive. However, nowadays after China Telecom is divided into China Netcom, China Mobile, China Unicom and China Satellite. We now enjoy good services with lower and lower price.
In a word, bargains result from market competition, company strategy. It is the product of modern market economy, and it will of course make our life better. Especially after China’s entrance to the WTO, we look forward to more glorious and bright future.
