The Guitar Times: 请问您是如何在大师班中学习同时又完成自己的学位？
How did you manage to follow someone into master-classes and still do a diploma?
David Russell: 我是在20岁那年在伦敦拿到学位的。当时我已经举办了一些场次的音乐会。两年后我开始参加比赛。
I finished my diploma when I was twenty, in London. I already had some concerts. I started two years later with competitions.
从我6岁起，我的家庭就开始不断旅行，我们有点象吉普赛人，他们人人都是艺术家。因此对于我来说，到另外一个国家去是一件不很困难的事情。我带着我的一顶帐篷，乘作公共汽车在英格兰和西班牙四处周游。我想我可能是个喜欢冒险的人……
My family has travelled since I was six, so we are kind of Bohemian -they're all artists. So for me, it was not difficult to go to another country: I went with a tent, with a bus in England and Spain. I suppose I was fairly adventurous...
我经常想：Jose Tomas在哪里有一个大师班？那么我们就到那里去。伦敦那里有个人可以教给我不少东西，那么我为什么不到伦敦去？于是，我就去了伦敦。这并不难实现，而且实际上这相当有趣。在那时侯我有许多朋友和女朋友，云游四方的人典型的特点。
I thought : " José Tomás has a master-class there? ... Well we go there!". Why should I stay in London if that guy can teach me things? So I went to him. It was not difficult, it was fun, actually. At that time I had friends and girl-friends -you know, typical things you move around with.
我依然想到一个正规的学院中去学习，获得一个学位是很重要的事情。你必须完成你的论文，而且当今学位和证书变得越来越重要了。所以我会向所有的年轻学生建议去完成学位，当然，我也会尽力让他们要向吉普赛人一样，但是你必须完成你的论文，因为如果没有这些东西许多人就不会有举办音乐会的机会，同时还有许多人需要进行教学，然后进行音乐会演出。
I still think that studying in a normal college, and doing a normal diploma is very important. You must get your papers, because now degrees, masters, diplomas every year are more important. So I would advise any young student that, okay, by all means go and be a Bohemian, but you must get your pieces of paper because not that many people will be able to live from their concerts, and many people will need to teach so that they can then play their concerts.
