A strong tree can be tested by a storm;a true friendship can be tested by adversity.
A true friendship will be revealed during hard times.
A friend in need is a friend indeed.(患難之友,斯為真友。)
17.
Traveling 10,000 miles sometimes is better than reading 10,000 books.
To journey 10,000 miles is better than to read 10,000 books.
Sometimes it is better to have actual experience than only to posses book knowledge.(實際經驗有時比讀死書好)
When you drink the water, remember the drinking fountain (或 spring.)
You should remember to repay someone for his or her kindness.
Remember the kindness others do for you.(別人對你有恩,你要記得回報。)
One day's conversation with an intelligent person is better than ten years of study alone.
We can learn more from an intelligent person than from reading a book.(由聰明人那裡學到的,要比讀一本書更多。)
You can learn a lot from a knowledgeable person.(從有豐富學識的人,可以學到很多東西。)
Indigo color coming from the original indigo plant, has a deeper color than indigo; ice coming from water is colder than water.
The younger generation may rise above their elders one day.(有一天,年輕一代會居於老年人之上。)或
Students can become more knowledgeable than their teachers in the future.
Never belittle young people!(別小看年輕人!)
One generation plants the trees under whose shade another generation takes it ease.
A previous generation plants the trees whose shade will benefit the following generation. 或,
Previous generations make the world a better place for future generations.
Past generations plant the seeds for future ones.
People who worry too much are just as bad as those who do not worry at all.
You should concentrate on making your life better instead of worrying about things that may not happen.
Don't worry about something that may or may not happen.(不必操心那些也許不會發生的事情)
What if the sky falls!(天坍下來怎麼辦!)或
The sky is falling!
The more you learn, the more you see your ignorance.
The larger the island of knowledge, the longer the shoreline of ignorance.
Learning is lifelong habit for everyone.
The more you know the more you realize what you don't know.
You are searching for a needle at the bottom of the sea.
It is like looking for a needle in a haystack.或You are searching for a needle in a haystack.
Your efforts will be in vain just like searching for a needle in a haystack.(haystack是一堆乾草;in vain 是無效;徒勞無功。)
You are making a fruitless effort.
Tigers do not breed dogs.
If you are a tiger, you will not beget a dog.
If you are a strong father, you will produce a strong child.
The apple never falls far from the tree.=Son will pick up the quality of the father.
