| “In your opinion, what is the number one key to motivation?”
Several years ago I read a short sentence that I couldn’t get out of my mind. It said, “What motivates people is what motivates people.” At first I thought, “How silly.” But the more I pondered the statement, the more it made sense. If we want to motivate people we learn exactly what they want and offer them a way to obtain it. But what about you? What is your motivation? Is it the dream of seeing every square on an organizational chart become a reality? Is it being able to retire in the home you envision? Tell me your dream and I’ll instantly know what motivates you. Without a vision there is only vacuum and void. Why do so many people allow their ideals for tomorrow to be shelved? They are swallowed up by the desire to be accepted by their circle of friends and to survive in their current work environment. Personal ambitions and plans are put aside and often destroyed.
