I have to write more this time. For the driver, a most warm-hearted
guy I met at Shanxi Province.
Back from Yun2 Gang2 Cave, at a long-distance bus station we were
told that there were no bus to Wu Tai Mountain during those days--
heavy snow made the road icy and slippy, it had been impossible for a
bus to travel across. Yet we still decided to try our fortune. We had
tryed it many times during our trip, at Hu Kou Waterfall(壶口瀑布),
at Qiao Jia Countyyard(乔家大院). And this time we'd like to try
again. Wu Tai Mountain would be our last destination, that was no way
to let it go just because being told bus was unvailable.
After two hours' searching and bargain, finally we rented a taxi. The
driver was in his 30's, conversable but nice and frank. His name was
Yangfan. It had been 3:30pm already.
Dusk was drawing up. At the first begining all of us were full of
confidence. Wu Tai Mountain lay only 40 miles ahead and we definitely
could arrived there early. However, after 20 miles, at Dai Xian(代县)
we heard a bad news--the short-cut we were heading on to the mountain
had been frozen by ice. The only way we could try was another road,
but we had to spend more time of another 40 miles. The driver began
to frown--he had to hurry back to Da Tong(大同) right after driving
us to the mountain. If so, he couldn't arrive Da Tong until 2 or 3am
at the morning. The most important thing was that he didn't know the
condition of another road. But he didn't say anything, we dared
not,either.
Darkness doomed the world finally. Slience hung in the mountains. I
looked through the window, the liquid moonlight silved the whole
world. Snows faw away were glitting. I widened my eyes trying to
catch light or human being, but my trying went vain--we were in the
heart of an unknown mountain already. My brain began to search those
tales of vampire intendedly. I shoved a girl beside me and smiled at
her maliciously and began to talk about vampires. She screamed and
shouted me back. We all laughed, except for the driver.
