business week Survey GIVES TOP RANKING TO RICHARD IVEY SCHOOL OF BUSINESS
International surveys helps measure Canada’s ability to compete in global marketplace, Dean Tapp
LONDON, Ontario – Canada’s Richard Ivey School of Business continues to draw international recognition as a leading business school, earning top marks in the prestigious Business Week annual survey on business education. The School is ranked 5th best non-U.S. school, and best in Canada.
This survey is a key international benchmark for students and senior management alike given its unique methodology that determines how schools satisfy the needs of their two major stakeholders: graduates and the corporations that hire them. The survey interviewed 10,039 students at 82 B-schools worldwide and 247 corporate recruiters. The candid feedback from these two groups has made Business Week's ranking an influential source of information since its debut in 1988. The 2000 survey will be published in the October 2 issue of Business Week.
“The reputation of a leading business school must span its national boundaries to attract and retain the best faculty and student population,” said Lawrence Tapp, Dean, The Richard Ivey School of Business. “This international honour reinforces our global stature and reflects the value of an Ivey education from the perspective of both the student and recruiter.”
Dean Tapp went on to say that the Business Week ranking is testament to the quality of faculty and a clear endorsement of the teaching methodology, which encourages students to learn through lively discussions and debate. “The case method approach fosters the creative and analytical and forward-thinking skills required to manage effectively in today’s business environment.”
Today’s announcement follows a Financial Times survey published this Spring that ranks the Ivey Business School as 20th best institution in the world for executive education. It was the only Canadian institution to place in the top 20 worldwide. Last January, The Financial Times ranked Ivey’s MBA program No. 19, making it the highest ranked Canadian business school.
“To remain competitive, Canada’s future business leaders must think entrepreneurially, act strategically, and be prepared to lead in today's rapidly changing, global business environment,” said Dean Tapp. “As such, it’s critical for our business schools to produce some of the best graduates in the world. International surveys, such as those from Business Week and The Financial Times, act as a useful tool to measure the quality of b-schools and, in turn, determine Canada’s ability to compete on the world stage.”
The Richard Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario (www.ivey.uw0.ca) offers full-time undergraduate (HBA) and graduate degree programs (MBA and Ph.D.), Executive MBA programs in both classroom and videoconference formats, and non-degree programs in executive development and entrepreneurship. Ivey has campuses in London (Ontario), Mississauga (Ontario) and Hong Kong (where it was the first North American business school to build a campus in Asia) and has videoconference learning sites across Canada in Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, London, Toronto and Montreal.
