* 1.) You want to increase the performance of a Windows NT SERVER comp uter; there are usually 10 or fewer simultaneous connections. Which Wi ndows NT Server setting should you configure:
a) Workstation Service
b) Server Service
c) Virtual Memory
d) Foreground application performance
>>Answer - B (I don't know how you can configure the server service, b ut this is what everyone seems to answer. Needs Verification.)
XXX-man> Are you trying to study for NT Server on an NT Workstation? B ad idea! On a SERVER machine, go to Control Panel, Network, Services, Server and double click. Now you can see how the SERVER SERVICE can be adjusted.
2.) You notice that the response on one of your Windows NT Servers is poor it has two 2 GB hard drives with two 1 GB NTFS partitions on each drive, the paging file is on the first physical disk WHICH also conta ins the system partition. What should you do to increase performance?
a) Increase the size of the paging file
b) Decrease the size of the paging file
c) Move the paging file to the second physical disk
d) Move the paging file to a different partition on the first physical disk
>>Answer - C (by putting it on a different disk, it balances the load)
* 3.) Your network is configured as a single domain and has 5 Windows NT Server computers. You want to use performance monitor to analyze di sk activity for a week to determine overall utilization at peak period s on each of the servers. How should you collect?
a) Create an alert log
b) Use the report view
c) Use the chart view
d) Create a log file
>>Answer - D (use the log to track statistics over a long period of ti me)
* 4.) By using performance monitor you learn that your Windows NT Serv er computer is running slowly due to excessive paging. How should you correct this problem?
a) Increase the size of the paging file
b) Decrease the size of the paging file
c) Add memory to your computer
d) Add a faster processor
>>Answer - C (with more memory, there is less need to page to virtual memory. With too little RAM, your machine is forced to use virtual mem ory which is damn slow.)
* 5.) You suspect that excessive paging resulting from the lack of mem ory is causing slow performance on an NT Server. You want to use perfo rmance monitor to confirm your suspicions. Which activity should you m onitor?
a) The number of pages per second on a server
b) The percentage of physical disk activity
c) The percentage of the paging file that is in use
d) Peak percentage of the paging file that is in use
>>Answer - A
* 6.) You want to install Windows NT Server by using the NT CD-ROM. Ho w can you do this? Choose all that apply.
a) Boot from the CD-ROM and run Setup.exe
b) Boot from MS-DOS and verify that CD drivers are loaded run setup.ex e from CD-ROM
c) Boot from MS-DOS, verify that CD drivers are loaded run Winnt.exe/b from CD-ROM
d) Boot from MS-DOS, verify that CD drivers are loaded run Winnt32.exe /b from CD-ROM
e) Boot from the Setup boot disk
>>Answer - C (possibly E as well, but questions says "using the NT CD- ROM")
* 7.) Your network consists of one NT Server computer and 100 NT Works tation computers. The network uses TCP/IP and the server has two netwo rk adapters each adapter to a separate LAN segment. You want to config ure the server to support routing across the two segments?
a) Manually assigning a network IP to each network adapter.
b) Manually assigning an identical IP address to both adapters.
c) Use DHCP to assigning a unique IP address to each adapter.
d) Use DHCP to assigning identical IP addresses to both network adapte rs.
>>Answer - A (since they are on two different segments, they need to s eparate IP addresses assigned to them)
** 8.) Your network has 40 Windows NT Workstation computers, the compu ters all belong to a workgroup named SUPPORT. You want to install a Wi ndows NT Server Computer that is configured as a PDC with the domain n ame SUPPORT. You want all Workstation computers to be added to this do main. What do you have to do?
a) A domain administrator must use User Manager for Domains to create accounts for the Windows NT Workstation computers.
b) A domain administrator must use Server Manager to add the NT Workst ation computers to the domain.
c) A Window NT Administrator must reinstall each workstation to add it to the domain.
d) A Windows NT Administrator must log on to each workstation and use the Network option in the control Panel to configure workstation join the domain.
>>Answer - B (If you have to choose two, possibly 'A' as well)
XXX-man> No way on A! On a Windows NT server machine, run Server Manag er. Go to Computer, Add to Domain. Now click the handy Help button. It tells you the 3 ways to add a computer to a Domain. 1. when a Domain Administrator installs NT on another workstation or server, he can add the machine at that time. 2. An admin can go to a PC, open the Networ k control panel and add the machine from there. 3. An admin can use Se rver Manager and add the PC to the Domain, then the user can add the P C to the domain from their Network control panel. Note that User Manag er for Domains allows you to create USER accounts, not COMPUTER accoun ts. You add COMPUTERS to a domain -- look at the list in Server Manage r.
* 9.) The FISHER Company has one central location and three remote loc ations. Each location has one NT Server computer and 40 Workstations. The workstations at the remote locations use NetBEUI to connect to res ources on the local network. They use a router and TCP/IP to connect t o the central site. The remote workstations send approximately 90% of the time accessing local resources and 10% accessing resources in the central location. How do you configure the bindings for optimal perfor mance?
a) At the remote locations servers set up NetBEUI first AND TCP/IP for the server Service
b) At the central location servers set up TCP/IP first and Net BEUI se cond for the server service
c) At the remote location workstations set up NetBEUI first and TCP/IP second for the Workstation Service
d) At the remote location workstations set up TCP/IP first and NetBEUI second for the Workstation Service
e) Binding order will not affect the speed of the network access
>>Answer - C (The machine will go down the protocol binding list looki ng for a protocol to communicate with. Since they use local resources more (using NetBEUI) you want it first in the binding order.)
XXX-man> Also, A is not correct because the Server service on NT Serve r machines is not affected by network order -- it adjusts to each requ est as needed.
10.) You want to install NT Server on an MS-DOS based computer by usin g the network. The server installation files are available on a shared directory on an NT Server named CF1. What must you do to start the in stallation?
a) Boot the MS-DOS based computer from the NT Server setup disk
b) CF1 use the Client Network administrator to create an NT Server sta rtup disk, boot the MS-DOS based computer from MS-DOS, run winnt.exe f rom the startup disks.
c) Boot the MS-DOS based computer from MS-DOS insert the first NT Flop py and run
Winnt.exe from the disk
d) Boot the MS-DOS based computer from MS-DOS, connect to the shared d irectory which contains the NT Server files. Run Winnt32.exe form that drive.
e) Boot the MS-DOS based computer from MS-DOS, connect to the shared d irectory which contains the NT Server files. Winnt.exe form that drive .
>>Answer - E
* 11.) You are installing NT Server on an Intel based computer from a CD-ROM. The NT installation program fails to detect your non-SCSI CD-R OM drive. How can you enable the NT setup program to recognize your no n-SCSI CD-ROM drive?
a) Restart the NT installation program, select "specify additional dev ice" and select the driver for the CD-ROM adapter.
b) Restart the NT installation program, select "scan system for mass s torage devices"
c) Insert the Windows NT Setup boot disk, from the command prompt type winnt.exe/s
d) Insert the Windows NT Setup boot disk, from the command prompt type NT detect.com
>>Answer - A
XXX-man> I guess that because the question says "...fails to detect... " means you had to have already pressed Enter when Setup asked "Press Enter to let Setup detect mass storage devices on your computer." Sinc e your CD was not recognized the first time around, you had already tr ied answer B.
*** 12.) You attach an external tape drive to your NT Server Computer; the tape drive requires a SCSI controller, which you also install. Wh at must you do to make the new SCSI controller and tape drive to work with the system? (Choose three)
a) Install the appropriate driver for the SCSI controller
b) Install the appropriate driver for the Tape device
c) Install the Windows NT Backup program
d) Restart the Server
e) Start the SCSI controller by using the "SCSI adapters" option in Co ntrol Panel
>>Answer - A, B, and D
** 13.) Your NT Server computer is configured to use NWLINK IPX/SPX co mpatible protocol. Your clients also use IPX/SPX protocol. Your client s are not able to connect to the server. What is the most likely cause of the problem?
a) The SUBNET Mask was set incorrectly.
b) File permissions were set to no access.
c) An incorrect frame type was selected on the server
d) The workstation service on the NT Server failed to start.
>>Answer - C (you must have the right frame type when communicating wi th IPX/SPX or you will get zero connectivity)
* 14.) A NT Server computer on your network is infected with a boot se ctor virus. To remove the virus you erase the contents of the boot sec tor you restart the server and receive a massage that "the operating s ystem can not be found". How should you fix the problem?
a) Format a floppy on a different NT computer, use this disk to start the failed server and use the SYS command to reconstruct the boot sect or.
b) Use the NT installation disk to start the failed server and when pr ompted use the emergency repair disk to reconstruct the boot partition .
c) Run the RDISK utility on the server to repair the system partition.
d) Start the server with a diskette, which contains the NT system file s, and run Disk administrator.
>>Answer - B (the ERD can do many good things. Be sure to always have a current one (machine specific!) and know what you can do with it!)
* 15.) A print device attached to an NT Server computer stops working. Several documents are waiting to print. You want to send these docume nts to an identical print device attached to a remote NT Server comput er. How can you do this?
a) Use Network Neighborhood to open the printer on the remote server. Copy and paste the print jobs from the failed print device to the new print device.
b) Use Network Neighborhood to open the printer on the remote server. Drag the print jobs from the failed print device and the new print dev ice.
c) Modify the port properties of the failed printer and specify a new port by using the UNC name of the remote printer.
d) Delete the failed printer, create a new printer on the NT Server co mputer as a network printer and specify the unique name of the remote printer, use the same share name that failed printer used.
>>Answer - C (Originally was D, verified to be C from ExamPrep)
* 16.) You create a stripe set with parity on a Windows NT Server comp uter with 3 disk drives connected to a SCSI controller. After one of t he drives fail, you replace it with a new one. The drive that contains the system and paging files was not affected. How do you restore?
a) Back up the existing data to another disk or tape and recreate the stripe set and restore the data.
b) Use disk administrator to select existing stripe members, on the ne w disk drive select a space that is AT LEAST the same size as the exit ing stripe members and choose Regenerate from the fault tolerance menu .
c) Use disk administrator to create a partition on the new disk drive that is the same size as the individual drive members and choose regen erate form the fault tolerance menu of disk administrator.
d) Do nothing. NT Server will automatically detect the new disk and re cover the stripe set with parity.
>>Answer - C (Originally was B, in a Stripe Set, all drives must be th e same size. Answer B seems to imply you can have a larger partition t han the existing ones, which is wrong.)
XXX-man> I am afraid I'm gonna have to go with B as well. It is really impossible in the real world to get two, let alone three, hard drives the same size. When setting up a strip set with parity, the drives mu st be very close to the same size, then NT will create 3 partitions on the 3 drives that are EXACTLY the same size. When replacing a bad dri ve, it must be AT LEAST as big as the other two partitions, it certain ly cannot be smaller.
17.) You want to create a backup copy of the entire registry of a Wind ows NT Server computer you want to include the Security Settings and t he User Accounts how can you do this while the computer is running?
a) Use the Windows NT backup program.
b) Use Server Manager.
c) Use Windows NT Explorer.
d) Use Disk Administrator.
>>Answer - A (You can also do this with the ERD using the /s switch (i .e. rdisk.exe /s ))
* 18.) Remote users dial into a RAS server to access a company databas e. The application that is used requires the use of a socket interface . All servers on the network have both NetBEUI and TCP/IP installed. T he remote users will use NT Workstation with NetBEUI. What else needs to be done?
a) Install the Windows socket interface from the source media.
b) Select how the IP address will be assigned to the workstation.
c) Configure PPP settings for NetBEUI.
d) Configure SLIP settings for TCP/IP.
>>Answer - C (PPP is the most common protocol when dealing with RAS. I t can support IPX/SPX, NetBEUI, and TCP/IP. These two facts seem to fi x with the question. BTW, SLIP only handles TCP/IP. If I were to choos e two, it would be 'B' as well.)
** 19.) You install client based administration tools on a Windows 95 client computer. You want to use the client to manage file permissions on your NT Server computer. What should you use from the client compu ter?
a) Server Manager
b) User Manager for Domains
c) Windows Explorer
d) Disk Administrator
>>Answer - C
* 20.) You configure your RAS Server to use DHCP to assign TCP/IP addr esses. The Windows NT Workstation Computers are configured to receive IP addresses from the server. Which additional configuration setting o r settings for the workstations can you manage. (Choose three)
a) Default gateway addresses.
b) Default FTP addresses.
c) DNS addresses.
d) WINS server addresses.
e) Mail server addresses.
>>Answer - A, C, and D
21.) Your network is configured as a single domain and has four domain controllers. All Windows administrators use NT Workstation computers. You want to provide notification, to users who are administrators, wh en a system event occurs on any of the servers. How do you do this?
a) Add the user names of the Administrators to the Server Operators gr oup, they will receive alerts automatically when the system events occ ur.
b) Start the Alerter service on each workstation that is used by an ad ministrator.
c) On the PDC use Server Manager to add the Domain Admins group to the list of names that should receive alerts.
d) On each controller use server manager to add the user name of each administrator to the list of names that should receive alerts.
>>Answer - D (If I were to choose two, possibly 'A' as well.)
XXX-man> In User Manager for Domains, the only possible place to speci fy such things would be under Policies, User Rights. I don't see squat about Alerts. I don't think there is any chance A is correct. Go to C ontrol Panel, Server, Alerts and right there is New Computer or Userna me. Add the names of the administrators. Therefore D and just D is the answer.
** 22.) How are file names and file permissions affected when you copy a directory from an NTFS partition to a FAT partition? Choose all tha t apply.
a) All long file names are discarded.
b) All long file names are retained.
c) All file permissions are retained.
d) All file permissions are discarded.
e) All file permissions are inherited from the destination directory.
>>Answer - B and D (Since FAT offers no security, all file permissions are lost. FAT does, however, support LFN.
* 23.) You want to create a home directory for Erick in a shared direc tory named Homedirs on a BDC. How should you create and assign the hom e directory to Erick?
a) In User Manager for domains specify a UNC to the home directory.
b) In User Manager for domains specify the domain, the server, and the directory name for the home directory.
c) In Windows NT Explorer create the home directory on the BDC and ass ign "Take Ownership" permission to Erick.
d) In Windows NT Explorer create the home directory on the BDC and ass ign "Full Control" permission to Erick.
>>Answer - A
*** 24.) What can you use to create shared directories on remote Windo ws NT Server computers?
a) Use User Manager for Domains
b) Disk Administrator
c) Control Panel
d) Server Manager
>>Answer - D (Server Manager will always be your first choice in this situation. If you already have a shared drive, you can connect to the share and add additional shares to the drive or directories on that dr ive using Windows Explorer.)
25.) You install a RAS Server on your network. Remote users will use N T Workstation computers for Dialup Networking to access a database. Th e database is stored on a different NT Server computer than the RAS Se rver. You want to use data encryption to protect sensitive data. How d o you accomplish this?
a) Configure RAS Server to require data encryption for only NT Worksta tion computers. Configure the Server, which contains the DB to require data encryption for remote users.
b) Configure the RAS Server to require data encryption for specific mo dem ports. Configure the NT workstation computers to dial up to the mo dems attached only to these ports.
c) Configure RAS Server to require data encryption for specific user a ccounts.
d) Configure the RAS Server to allow for all remote users. Configure t he server that contains the DB to require encryption for remote users.
>>Answer - D
XXX-man> This question definitely sucks. A is not correct because, on an NT server, there is no way when configuring RAS to choose for whom there is encryption. It is either on or off for all RAS connections. H ow do I know this? On my PDC I bogus-installed two ports and two modem s. Then when you click on Network (which is where you set encryption t ypes) it does not matter which port you have selected. Encryption appl ies to all ports and modems on a server. Therefore B is also not corre ct. C is not correct because there is nothing to do with user accounts under RAS (except in Remote Access Admin utility, but the permissions are really just on or off). That leaves D. Well, yes, allowing all us ers to connect to the RAS server certainly lets everyone in. But how a re we supposed to know if some random database running on some other m achine (what Unix? a Mac? oh, ok, even an NT server running SQL -- lik e we're supposed to know about THAT!) is able to determine that a user trying to access
the database on the server has connected to some OTHER server via remo te access. I mean really, are we to assume that a Macintosh running a FileMaker Pro database can provide encryption for a user connecting to an NT server running RAS and Services for Macintosh?. What the heck?! ?!
** 26.) Your network has five NT Server computers, which are located i n three different subnets, users of remote Windows NT Workstations use Dialup Networking to connect to the network. You want to minimize the time it takes for these workstations to resolve the addresses. What i s the best way to accomplish this?
a) Use a local LMHosts on each NT Workstation computer.
b) Disable the NetBios interface on each NT Workstation computer.
c) Use a LMHosts file on the RAS Server.
d) Install WINS Service on each Windows NT Workstation computer
>>Answer - A ('D' is incorrect because installing WINS on the Workstat ion will not help. WINS would need to be installed on a server in each subnet and then configure replication between the subnets. LMHosts mu st be on the client, so 'C' is incorrect. 'B' does more harm than good .)
XXX-man> Actually D is really incorrect because you cannot install the WINS service on a WORKSTATION at all -- you can point to a WINS SERVE R under the TCP/IP settings of a workstation. [And as for the explanat ion above, I installed WINS onto my PDC and there is NO configuration available -- i.e. no replication. This leads me to believe that you sh ould set up a number of servers with the WINS service and point the cl ients to those servers (you can point to two of them -- Primary and Se condary). So you would probably set up the service on one server per s ubnet, and use another servers, such as the another nearby server, or even the PDC, as the secondary WINS server.]
27.) You want to prevent all users, except members of the administrato rs group, from logging on to the domain from any of the controllers. W hat must you do?
a) Remove all users except members of the administrators group from th e interactive special group.
b) Place all users except members of the administrators group in the i nteractive special group.
c) Insure that only members of the administrator group have the right to log on locally.
d) Insure that only members of the administrators group have the right to log on to a domain controller.
>>Answer - C
** 28.) The VGA adapter on your Windows NT Server fails while you are using a high resolution setting. You install a new video adapter that is not identical to the failed adapter. You want the server to run in high-resolution mode, what must you do (Choose two)
a) Reinstall the Windows NT Server.
b) Select the VGA Mode option from the Windows Startup screen
c) Press space bar during startup to invoke last known good configurat ion.
d) Install the new video driver by using the Emergency repair disk.
e) Install the video driver by using the display option in control pan el.
>>Answer - B and E (You need to do 'B' because the settings before wil l probably not be compatible with this new card you are putting in. So you must boot up in the default VGA mode at 640x480, then install the new drivers and setup the display settings again (choice 'E'))
29.) You want to identify the OS version & role of each Windows NT Ser ver and Windows NT Workstation member of a domain controller. Where ca n you do this?
a) Network
b) Server Manager
c) Performance Monitor
d) NetWare Client Administrator
>>Answer - B (The Server Manager lists out all the machines in the dom ain and if they are a Server or Workstation. You can also add addition al comments next to each machine giving a more detailed description of its role in the network, such as PDC, BDC, webserver, etc.)
**** 30.) You want to view counters for TCP/IP activity on three Windo ws NT server computers. You will run Performance Monitor on Windows NT workstation computers to view this information.
a) Install SNMP service on each of the Windows NT server computers
b) Install SNMP service on the NT workstation
c) Create a log file on TCP/IP performance counters
d) Create a report on TCP/IP performance counters
>>Answer - A (SNMP is used for relaying network information, which mus t be installed on the machine you want to monitor)
XXX-man> I think the answer is C for a number of reasons. 1. I have tw o MCSE books on NT server, neither one of which even mentions SNMP. 2. You CAN create a Log file in Performance Monitor for remote computers that will monitor network parameters -- use the Network Interface obj ect. True, not exactly TCP/IP, but then again... 3. I installed SNMP o n my PDC and it doesn't seem to monitor TCP/IP any more specifically t han the Performance Monitor, Network Interface. 4. Network Monitor (no t included in the answers above, but could be on the test!) can only m onitor network things on the local computer on which it is installed.
** 31.) Your network has three Windows NT server computers you want to be able to monitor disk space usage on each sever so that you will be notified when free space on any partition falls below 25%. How can yo u do this?
a) On each Server, use server manager to add your computer name or use r name to the list of names that alerts should be sent to.
b) On each server, use Server Manager to start the alerter service, ch ange the startup parameters so that your account name is specified as the logon name for the alerter service
c) On your computer use Performance monitor to create an alert on the % free space counter for each logical disk on each server.
d) On one server start the schedule service use the AT command to star t the Diskperf utility at desired intervals.
>>Answer - A and C
XXX-man> I'm gonna have to disagree -- the only correct answer is C, N OT A. Not only because I just set up a server Performance Monitor gene rating an alert record every 5 seconds, but the only alert option unde r Performance Monitor is to Run Program on Alert. This alert in Perfor mance Monitor is apparently different from a System Alert. Do this: on a Server, go to Control Panel, Server, Alerts, Help. Read about Send Administrative Alerts To and click the little 'administrative alerts' text and read. Nothing about Performance Monitor alerts, just System a lerts. On a Domain Controller, going to Server Manager, double-clickin g on a server, and clicking on Alerts gives you the same thing as sitt ing in front of the server.)
32.) Duplicate. See question #1.
33.) Your RAS server is configured as (shown in the exhibit). Users of Windows NT workstation computers dial in to the RAS server.
a) Run applications that require Windows sockets interface
b) Run applications that require NetBios interface
c) Use IPX protocols to administer NetWare servers that reside on the network
d) Connect shared resources that reside on the RAS server.
>>Answer - A (Depends on Exhibit)
* 34.) It's missing !!! here are the answers !!!
Dial Out:
x NetBEUI
x TCP/IP
x IPX
Allow remote:
x NetBEUI
x TCP/IP
IPX
Encryption:
x Allow any authentication including clear text
35.) You are the administrator of three network locations. You adminis ter these networks remotely by dialing in via dial-up Networking from your Windows NT workstation computer's feature to automatically connec t to each RAS server based on the UNC name. What must you do on your W indows NT workstation computer to use the RAS AutoDial feature to auto matically logon?
a) Install DNS service
b) Install a null modem
c) Configure the workstation with SLIP
d) Create a phone book entry for each RAS server you want to use.
e) Create an LMhosts file that maps DNS names to IP addresses
>>Answer - D
36.) You are configuring a Windows NT Server computer that will store important data. Which fault-tolerance method or methods can you use to allow recovery in the event of a hard disk failure? (Choose two)
a) Disk mirroring
b) Stripe set
c) Stripe set with parity
d) Volume set
>>Answer - A and C (Of the RAID methods that NT supports, only Disk Mi rroring (RAID 1), Disk Duplexing (RAID 1), and Striping with Parity (R AID 5) offer fault tolerance. Any others would require you to replace the drive and restore from backup.)
37.) You want to implement a stripe set with parity on your new Window s NT Server computer. What is the minimum number of hard disk controll ers and physical disks required to implement stripe set with parity?
a) one hard disk controller and two physical disks
b) one hard disk controller and three physical disks
c) two hard disk controllers and two physical disks
d) two hard disk controllers and three physical disks
>>Answer - B
*** 38.) What is the minimum hardware required for disk duplexing?
a) one hard disk controller and two physical disks
b) one hard disk controller and three physical disks
c) two hard disk controllers and two physical disks
d) two hard disk controllers and four physical disks
>>Answer - C
39.) Duplicate. See question #35
** 40.) Your Microsoft Windows 95 client computers access shared resou rces on a Windows NT Server computer. The Windows 95 computers have cl ient for Microsoft Networks installed. You want to allow the Windows 9 5 client computers to access files on a Netware. What should you do to the NT Server?
a) From Windows NT Explorer, use the Map Network Drive button to conne ct a drive to the NetWare server. Then share that mapped drive.
b) From Server Manager, use the Shared Directories option on the Compu ter menu to share the desired directories on the NetWare server.
c) From the Gateway Service for NetWare option in Control Panel, use t he Gateway
option to share the desired directories on the NetWare server
d) From User Manager for Domains, use the Logon to option in the User
Properties dialog box to allow the Windows 95 client computers to acce ss the NetWare
server.
>>Answer - C (Rule: GSNW allow NT to access NetWare and NWLink allows NetWare to access NT.)
41.) The NetWare 3.x server at your branch office will be moved to the network at corporate headquarters. The headquarters network has 1 Win dows NT Server computer and 60 Microsoft Windows 95 workstations. The headquarters workstations use Client for Microsoft windows, you want a ll clients to be able to access the NetWare server.
a) Install and configure Gateway Service for NetWare on the Windows NT Server computer. No additional software is required on the Windows 95 workstations.
b) Install and configure Gateway Service for NetWare on the Windows NT Server computer. Reconfigure the Windows 95 workstations to use Clien t for NetWare Networks only.
c) Install and configure NWLink IPX/SPX compatible transport on the Wi ndows NT Server computer. Reconfigure the Windows 95 workstation to us e Client for NetWare Networks only.
d) Install and configure RIP for NWLink IPX/SPX Compatible Transport o n the Windows NT Server computer. No additional software is required o n the Windows 95 workstations.
>>Answer - A (Re-wording / Same concept as question #40)
42.) You set up directory auditing as shown in the exhibit. (Click the Exhibit button.) How will auditing be performed?
a) Any attempts to make changes to an existing file in a subdirectory of Corporate Archives will be audited.
b) Any files that are moved from a directory located on the same parti tion as the Corporate Archives directory will inherit this Audit polic y.
c) Any unsuccessful attempts to delete a file in the Corporate Archive s directory will be audited.
d) Any unsuccessful attempts to modify a file in the Corporate Archive s directory will be audited.
>>Answer - (Depends on the exhibit)
* 43.) Your network has three Windows NT Server computers. You want to change the role of one BDC so it becomes the PDC. You are working fro m a Windows NT Workstation computer that has Client-based Network Admi nistration Tools installed. What is the best way to promote the BDC to PDC?
a) Shut down the existing PDC. Use Server Manager to promote the desir ed BDC to a PDC. Restart the old PDC. It will be automatically demoted to a BDC when the new PDC is detected.
b) Shut down both the existing PDC and the BDC that will be promoted. Restart the BDC. It will automatically become a PDC when no other PDC is detected. Restart the old PDC. It will be automatically demoted whe n the new PDC is detected.
c) Use server Manager to stop the Net Logon service on both the PDC an d BDC. Promote the BDC to a PDC. Demote the old PDC to a BDC. Start th e Net Logon service on both computers.
d) Use server manager to promote the BDC to a PDC. The existing PDC wi ll be automatically demoted.
>>Answer - D (You should NEVER promote a BDC to PDC without the PDC be ing online. If the PDC is taken off-line, then the PDC may still have some necessary synchronization left to do to the BDC's. If a BDC is pr omoted, the PDC will finish all syncs automatically before being autom atically demoted to BDC.
Also, if you take the PDC down, promote the BDC, then bring the PDC ba ck on-line, there will be confusion on who is the true PDC.
44.) You want to configure your domain so that users can execute their logon scripts regardless of which server validates their logon. What can you do to ensure that the logon scripts will be available on all d omain controllers?
a) Install SNMP on all domain controllers.
b) Configure all servers with disk mirroring.
c) Use the Directory Replicator service on all servers.
d) Synchronize the BDC's with the PDC whenever changes are made to the logon scripts.
>>Answer - C
*** 45.) You are administering a Windows NT Server computer from a Mic rosoft Windows 95 client computer. You install Client-based Network Ad ministration Tools on the Windows 95 client computer. You want to shar e a CD-ROM drive that is attached to the Windows NT Server. How can yo u do this?
a) The Net.exe utility
b) Server Manager
c) Disk Administrator
d) Windows NT Explorer
>>Answer - B (Re-wording / Same concept as question #24. Remotely, you can use Windows Explorer to add additional shares (directory shares) to an already shared drive, but you can't add a share to the drive its elf without using Server Manager (remember, this is remotely))
** 46.) You want default properties and standard group memberships to be automatically assigned to new user accounts as the accounts are cre ated. What should you do in User Manager for Domains to accomplish thi s?

* 51.) You want to use Network Client Administrator to install Microso ft Windows 95 on a new computer. What must You do? (Choose three.)
a) Share the Windows 95 installation files.
b) Create a Windows 95 network installation startup disk
c) Create a Windows 95 network installation disk set.
d) Boot the new computer from the network installation startup disk
e.) Install Windows 95 from the network installation disk set.
>>Answer - A, C, and E
XXX-man> Dude... NO WAY! The answers are A, B, and D! Yes, using Netwo rk Client Administrator, you share the Win 95 install files. BUT, your first choice is to either Make Network Installation Startup Disk or M ake Installation Disk Set. Try it! If you do the FIRST option (a singl e DISK) and hit Continue, you get some more options, then you are aske d which OS -- Network Client for DOS or *Win 95*! So that is why it is just the SINGLE disk, not disk SET. Then, read the names above again -- choice D is a STARTUP disk. That's right, you boot (startup) from i t into DOS, connect to the network share, and install Win 95.
52.) You install Windows NT Server on partition C of a new computer th at has three physical disks. How can you provide fault tolerance for y our Windows NT system files?
a) Convert partition C to NTFS, and then extend the partition to the s econd physical disk by creating an extended volume set.
b) Mirror partition C to the second physical disk
c) Create a stripe set by combining partition C and the second physica l disk.
d) Create a stripe set with parity by combining partition C and the ot her two physical disks.
>>Answer - B (Because System and/or Boot files cannot be in a Stripe o r Volume Set.
Plus, Volume Sets do not offer fault tolerance. So, if you want fault tolerance on a System or Boot partition, your only choice is Mirroring or Duplexing)
* 53.) Ten Windows NT Workstation computers are being moved from your branch office to the company's main office. The main office has a netw ork that consists of a single domain named CENTRAL. You want the branc h-office Windows NT workstation computers to be able to logon to the d omain.
a) A domain administrator must use Server Manager to add the workstati on to the CENTRAL domain.
b) A Workstation administrator must log on at each workstation and con figure the workstation to join the CENTRAL domain.
c) A domain administrator must log on at each workstation and create a computer account, and must then join the CENTRAL domain.
d) A Workstation administrator must log on at each workstation and cre ate the computer account, and must then join the CENTRAL domain.
e) A Workstation administration must reinstall the Windows NT Workstat ion Software on each workstation and configure the workstations to joi n the CENTRAL domain.
>>Answer - A (Re-wording / Same concept as question #8)
XXX-man> Watch for the bogus "Workstation Administrator" -- there is n o such thing, rule out those answers immediately. So for example, answ er B could be correct if it were a Domain admin. What's wrong with C? A domain admin cannot log on as an admin on a workstation until AFTER the workstation joins the domain.

a) During printer installation, install the drivers for all needed har dware platforms and versions of Windows NT.
b) During printer installation, install only the Windows NT 3.51 print er driver.
c) On each Windows NT 3.51 computer, install the Windows NT 4.0 printe r driver from the Windows NT 4.0 source media.
d) Do nothing. The Windows NT 4.0 printer drivers are compatible with the Windows NT 3.51 computers.
>>Answer - A (By installing all the drivers on the Server, all the cli ents can just connect to the server and get the necessary drivers from there. It is a little ambiguous whether the NT Server already has the 4.0 drivers installed or has nothing and you are installing from scra tch (I'm thinking the latter).
If the NT 4.0 Server is assumed to already have printer drivers instal led, the NT Workstations can use these same drivers. The only drivers that are left to install are the NT 3.51 drivers. This would mean 'B' is correct (in that situation))
XXX-man> You know what happens when you make an assumption... you make an ass out of you and uption!

a) Install and configure RIP for NWLink IPXJSPX Compatible Transport.
b) Configure NWLink IPX/SPX Compatible Transport to use Auto Frame Typ e Detection.
c) Configure NWLink IPX/SPX Compatible Transport to use Manual Frame T ype Detection. Add the 802.3 and 802.2 frame types.
d) Install the driver for the network adapter twice, once for each fra me type. Configure each instance of the driver to support one of the r equired frame types.
>>Answer - C (If you use auto-detection (answer B), then the first fra me type NT comes across will be the default frame type. This means if 802.2 is detected, it will be the default and 802.3 won't be able to c ommunicate. Thus, you MUST explicitly define both types (answer C). Th e only two NetWare frame types are 802.3 (NetWare 3.x) and 802.2 (NetW are 4.x).)
* 58.) Your network is configured as a single domain that has one PDC and two BDCs. You want to use the current PDC as an application server . How should you reconfigure the roles of the domain controllers?

c) Format a floppy disk by using Windows NT. Copy Ntldr, Ntdetect.com, Ntbootdd.sys, and Boot.ini to that disk. On the floppy disk, make no changes to the files.
d) Format a floppy disk by using Windows NT. Copy Ntldr, Ntdetect.com, Ntbootdd.sys, and Boot.ini to that disk. On the floppy disk, make cha nges to the ARC path name in the Boot.ini tile to reflect the location of the system files on the mirrored disk.
>>Answer - B or D (The difference between the two choices seem to be t he OS that you make the boot floppy on. Using NT you can surely format a regular FAT disk and copy the required files to that disk. However, since your NT machine is down, you can't use it to format the disk, s o 'D' is assuming you have another NT machine to make the boot disk. A ssumption can be bad. This would make 'B' more correct.
* 64.) Documents are failing to print because of a lack of disk space on the system partition. How should you correct this problem?
a) Use Windows NT Explorer to drag the spool directory to a new partit ion.
b) Change the properties on the server to specify a new location for t he spool directory. Give the spool directory a new location that conta ins more free disk space.

c) Start the DISKperf utility to create a larger data-collection cache .
d) Increase the time interval for data collection.
>>Answer - D (Since collecting data can be time and resource consuming , the less you collect the data the better performance you are going t o get. By increasing the interval between collection times, you are ef fectively collecting the data less often.)
71.) The paging activity has increased on your Windows NT Server compu ter. As a result, the operating system has expanded the paging file be yond the specified initial paging size. How can this affect the operat ing system? (Choose two)
a) Applications can take longer to start.
b) Network I/0 can be increased.
c) The disk containing the paging file can become fragmented.
d) The current contents of the paging file can be lost.
>>Answer - A and C (When the OS increases the size of the paging file, it will allocate space. This space will probably not be right next th e what is already allocated, thus fragmenting will occur. If your pagi ng file is fragmented, applications will start slower. I always set my paging file's min and max size to be equal, to eliminate paging file fragmentation. However, if disk space is very tight, this may not be y our best option.)
72.) Duplicate. See question #70.
