young friend, pls read the following:
1. 首先从语感上讲人们(当然包括你)会不用: 1) I met her
2 years before.
2. ago 指"距*今*多少年(月、日等)以前"。而 before 表过去
某个一定时间以前，即 "距*那时*多少年(月、日等)以前"。
不能讲 i saw your friend before two weeks.
3. ago 多与过去时连用，而 before 且多与间接引语中的过去
完成时连用。
cf. his father died five years ago.
he said that his father had died five years before.
i left long ago. he was here just an hour ago.
it had been fine day before.
he called on me, but i had started five days before.
i have seen this before. etc.
4. young friend, 如有兴致可参阅<<a dictionary of english
