of course, all students who wish to enrol in an
advanced course of study in the US or Canada must take
both the TOEFL and the GRE tests.
u see the GRE is offered in china twice--a year
as a general test and also as subject tests in certain
areas. although some schools may require applicants
to take both a general and a subject test, in results
from the general test are usually more important.
now----the general test tests basic english and
math skills, and is divided into three sections:verbal,
quantitative and analytical. the verbal section tests
english vocabulary and comprehension through exercises
based on antonyms, analogies, sentence completion, and
reading comprehension. the quantitative section tests
mathematical skills like calculation, algebra and ge-
ometry, and is generally not too difficult for chinese
students. the analytical section tests deductive and
inductive analytical abilities. the entire test is
composed of seven sections, each lasting half an hour.
u see the total testing time is 3.5 hours.
now--the subject test evaluates the level of the
candidate's professional knowledge in a selected sub-
ject. subject tests are available for the following
areas: biology, biochemistry, chemistry, computer
science, economics, education, engineering, geology,
history, english literature, mathematics, music,
physics, political science, psychology and sociology,
french, spanish. u see the total testing time is
ten to 3 hours. of course, it is some difficult for
chinese students. about subjects--the entire subjects
are composed of seventeen areas.
