Through the experience of Finalfantasy games, Gaia theory was never clearly stated. Until the VII, Mako Energy was presented as blood of the planet. Also the Meteor summoned by Sephiroth was assumed of causing total destruction to the planet. However, it is said that the planet could be killed. Also Weapons, the monster created by the planet was sent to wipte out any existence that might be endanger the planet.
Red XIII's grand father, (name forgotten) a visionary scientist first discovered Gaia theory. Based on the ancient writtens and traces left by Aeris, he then found that the white magic, opposing to the black magic, causing holy effects that would eliminate any negtive influences to the planet. The Materia was lost into the life stream, but in the end, Aeris's praying reached the planet, and planet released HOLY by itself.
next in IX, Gaia theory was appeared in brand new form. Two parallel planets, one enriched with life, one in the shadow of death. Remains of the dark planet scheming to emerge two planets. Thus make the dead one live, and the alive one die.
Well, life isn't the only thing on the Gaia, planet of life. Lifa tree, emitting energy form called the "MIST", prove to be some sort of life energy. Reviving the planet of the death, Terra, means channeling this energy form from Gaia into the Terra. Well, the heros did it, and they saved both planets.
These two distinctive FFs clearly presented the Theory of Gaia. In the movie, gaia theory was unable to attract the audience. But for us FF enthusiasts, Gaia theory will be the ultimate theme of all Final fantasies.
Producer of Final fantasy series, Hironobu Sakaguchi had this idea, and he is willing to tell the world that our planet is a living thing. Anything we do might damage our mother earth. Our lives are given by the planet, when the time comes, it might take them back as well.
