Latest release Strange Cargo 3 [1994] - IRS Ambient-house pioneer and
master remixer William Orbit began his musical career in the early-'8
0s band Torch Song. When the group broke up, he remained in the studio
to learn the ropes and began to provide remixes for artists, includin
g Madonna, Prince, the Human League, Erasure and Belinda Carlisle. Orb
it concurrently recorded his own material under the name Strange Cargo
and released three albums during the late '80s and early '90s. He occ
asionally records as Bass-O-Matic and founded Guerilla and O Records.
During 1997, he worked with Madonna as the main producer for her elect
ronica-oriented LP Ray of Light. It won Grammy awards for Best Pop Alb
um and Best Dance Recording. Ray of Light's success led to a host of r
emixing and production work, including Blur's 1999 album 13.
