Decide which one in each pair of sentences below is acceptable in
spoken English.请判断

A.Does the hotel have a place where I can wash my clothes?
B.Does the hotel have a laundry service?
答案：B is right. As for A, no one would ask such a silly question.
例句：房间的价格要依所选房间类型而定。
A.The price of the room depends on which type of room you want.
B.The price of the room is dependent on which type of room you want.
答案：A is right. Though grammatically correct, few would ever utter a sentence like B.
例句：房间一天多少钱?
A.How much is the room each day?
B.How much is the room per day?
答案：B is the right answer.
例句：单人间和双人间都没有了。
A.Single rooms and double rooms are no more.
B.There are no single or double rooms available.
答案：B is right. A is Chinese English.
例句：我想要一间面对湖的房间。
A.I would like a room with its face opposite the lake.
B.I would like a room facing the lake.
答案：B is right. " Facing" is the present participle of the verb " to face" here. " Facing" can be replaced by " overlooking" .
例句：我能要一间在六层的房间吗?
A.Can I have a room on the sixth storey?
B.Can I have a room on the sixth floor?
答案：B is the right answer. The word " storey" is used in expressions like " a hotel of six storeys."
例句：有人领我去房间吗?
A.Can someone take me to my room?
B.Can someone lead me to my room?
答案：A is right. The word " lead" is only used in relation to a blind person.
例句：我想找家旅馆住。
A.I want to find a hotel to live.
B.I want to find a hotel to stay.
答案：B is right. We say " live at home" , but " stay at a hotel" ,
because " to stay" implies that you're in a place only for a short while.
例句：对不起，我们的房间都订满了。
A.I am sorry, we're fully booked.
B.I am sorry, we're fully occupied.
答案：A is right, but we may say " They occupy the house next door."
例句：我想要一个四周环境安静的房间。
A.I would like a suite in quiet surroundings.
B.I would like a suite in a quiet surrounding.
答案：A is right. When the general immediate environment is meant, the plural " surroundings" is used. " Surrounding" is an adjective as in "The surrounding countryside is very peaceful."
