談情說愛另一章 (下) / 懷中
5. 兩情相悅，喜結連理：一旦郎有情，妹有意，當然就會情意綿綿，卿卿我我，雙方沈醉在愛河的世界裡：
She has decided to make a life for him. (她決定嫁給他)
(to make a life for someone = to marry someone); 或
She would like to marry him and share the rest of her life with him. (她要嫁給他與他共度一生）
如果他是好老公，對老婆無微不至，也可以說：
She has received a outpouring of love and care.（她得到許多的關愛)
(動詞 outpour 本意是洋溢，湧出 = outflow = a lot)
She is loved more often than she knows.
(她被愛比她想像的還多)
也就是：
He loves her immensely.（他太愛她了）
She gets at least three pecks on the cheek a day. (她每天在臉頰上至少有三次的親吻) (peck = kiss)
No night falls without a good-night kiss. (每個晚上不能沒有「晚安」的親吻)
He carries her into the bedroom on piggyback every night. (他每晚揹著她進臥房)
He is a wonderful man who meets all her criteria for a perfect husband. (他是一位理想的老公，符合她的一切條件。)
(criterion 是希臘文，意思是「標準」，複數是 criteria)
He will love her and care for her happily as long as he lives. (只要他活著，他就會關愛她。)
They have about as good marriage as anyone could hope for. (他們美好的婚姻，是人人所盼望的。)
但是也有老公婚後不解風情，或不懂體貼，導致太座的不滿：
The love she used to receive from her husband has fallen off. (她過去從老公得到的愛，已經降低了。) (to fall off =t o decline); 或
All signs of affection has gone. (所有愛情的徵兆，都不見了。)
The couple has had an on-and-off relationship. (這對夫婦有個「時好時壞」的關係)
She has married to an “ice man” without love.（她嫁給一位「冷冰冰」而沒有愛的男人）
She complains that the relationship is not a marriage；
= it is indentured servitude.（她埋怨他們不是婚姻關係，而是一種合同式的奴役。) (indentured servitude 是指每天伺候服務，而無愛情。)
可見，她在渴求愛情：(She is starved for affection.) 因為單方面的愛，是不能產生良好的關係。(One-sided love does not make a good relationship.) 如果老公不能改變作風 (do a 180-degree turnaround)，老婆也許就會感到愛情無望而放棄。
She may throw in the towel when she finds her love life is hopeless. (當她發現愛情無望時，她也許就會放棄。) (to throw in the towel=to give up）
或She may put the romance behind her.
（她不再想她過去的羅曼史）
She may stay out of each other's sight for a while.
（她想暫時互不見面)
6. 錯嫁郎君，遇人不淑：如果老公不善解人意，不懂憐香惜玉，反而三心兩意，與其他女人墜入愛河，那麼就可以說：
He has taken up with a married woman. (他與有夫之婦有染)
(to take up with someone=to be in love with someone); 或
His wife is running around. (他的老婆有外遇)
注意：如果指「工作忙碌」，就應該說：
His wife is running around doing errands.
Being in love with a married woman, he is sneaking around. (to sneak around 是指做些偷偷摸摸，神不知，鬼不覺的事。這裡指偷情。)
He came home with a hickey on his neck. (hickey = kissing mark，就是接吻後，皮膚上留下紅色的痕跡。)
有時偷情，也是由於舊情人的出現而死灰復燃：
The old flame never went out completely. (過去的情火，沒有完全熄滅。); 或
Their old feelings for each other came flooding back. (他們之間的舊愛情又湧流回來了)
(flame 本意是火焰，這裡指 fire of love); 或是說：
The old passion has been rekindled. (舊愛情又重新燃燒起來了)
還可以更含蓄的說：
Embers only smolder when old flames meet.
(Embers 是指餘燼，即以前的愛情；smolder或smoulder 是指燃燒或冒煙；old flames 在此指過去的情人)
如果老公痛改前非，希望和好如初，也可以說：
He was sorry for cheating on his wife. (他因不忠於太座而感到抱歉)
He is now born-again and has learned his lesson.（他重新做人，學到教訓。)
(born-again = repentant意思是後悔自己所做的事。)
但是，老婆還是疑神疑鬼：
His wife still does not trust him and her heart is heavy. (他老婆仍然不信任他，內心十分沉重。) (heavy 就是 sad)
When her husband makes love to her, she feels he is thinking of his ex-girlfriend. (當老公與她做愛時，她覺得他在想他的老情人。)
You can't force her to let go of her jealousy. (你不能強迫她不要忌妒)
這時，我們如果勸人不要藕斷絲連，「回頭是岸」，那麼也可以說：
Forbidden fruit may taste sweet at first, but it spoils faster.（禁果初嚐時，可能很甜，但也很快地腐爛。） 或
Forbidden love brings pain.（被禁止的愛，是會帶來痛苦的。） 或
The pain you caused is always greater than the pleasure you got.（你造成的痛苦，超過你得到的快樂。）
You should not keep (on) seeing her and break it off now.（現在你該斬斷情絲，停止與她往來。）
即使遭受婚變（或失戀），一般老外比較「看得開，放得下」，他們還會輕鬆的說：
She is not the only fish in the sea, you may rebait the hook. (她不是海上唯一的魚，你可再釣啊！) (就是天下何處無芳草) (也用於男人)
(所以 rebait the hook 就是 look for someone else)
One woman's leftover can be another woman's banquet. (一位女人的殘羹剩菜，也許是另一位女人的宴席大餐。)
(leftover 這裡指過去的情人；banquet 是指像「寶貝」一樣)
Ben Franklin 曾說過：「沒有愛情的婚姻，就會造成婚外情。」
Where there is marriage without passion, there will be passion without marriage.（第一個 passion 指love；第二個 passion 是指 lover)
也有人說：「成功婚姻的秘訣，就是當雙方意見不合時，閉上嘴巴」
The secret for successful marriage is to clam up during a disagreement.)
(clam up: shut up)
