GRAHAM BONNET (UK)
Bonnet is from Skegness, Lincolnshire and was born in 1947. He vocalized
on a top-five single 'Only One Woman' for the Marbles in 1968. He found
hard rock after joining Rainbow in 1979 and his vocals adorned a number
of Rainbow hit singles.
After leaving Rainbow, he released his own album, Live Up, hitting the pop-
chart top five with 'Night Games' but was unable to follow this with another
hit. Line Up was produced by John (Status Quo) Eden, and featured Cozy
Powell on drums, Mickey Moody on guitar, Jon Lord on keyboards and
Gary Twigg on bass. In 1982 Bonnet replaced Gary Barden in the Michael
Schenker Group but in the late summer Bonnet and album Assault Attack
featured Bonnet on lead vocals. Bonnet went on to form Alcatrazz.

JEFF BECK (UK)
Beck is a legendary heavy-rock axeman whose talent takes him far beyond
heavy- music confines. His fame comes from a several- times hit single 'Hi
Ho Silver Lining' which was produced by Mickie Most in 1967. The disc ends
many a HM- disco club evening. Beck doesn't regard the 45 as representing
a great musical moment in his career and he has thought even less of another
chart single hit of his, 'Love Is Blue'.
He gained initial plaudits for his guitarwork with the Yardbirds when he replaced
Eric Clapton. He split from the group in 1966 and formed the Jeff Beck Group
which had a line-up of Rod Steawart (vocals), Ron Wood (bass), Micky Waller
(drums) and later, Nicky Hopkins (piano). Two albums came from this outfit,
Truth and Beck- Ola, in which the music was bluesy hard rock.
The group folded in 1969 and after this Beck either tried to form or eventually
found himself in several groups. He was part of Beck, Bogart and Appice,
virtually a re- formed Jeff Beck Group; he helped out Jan Hammer on the album
Wired and toured with the group, recording the album Live in 1977. Beck veered
into the jazz- rock field and, apart from an occasional short tour and record
release, little has been heard of him except for a volatile teaming with Rod
Stewart, until the latest album. He did play the guitar on several tracks on the
self- titled A Box of Frogs album.
Beck finally made his fans happy by returning to the recording studio near
the end of the decade and playing on Jon Bon Jovi's 1990 solo LP. Blaze of Glory.

JIMMY BARNES (Australia)
Hyper- excellent singer- songwriter whose gruff rough 'n' tumble voice
amongst afficionados has become something of a minor legend. Born
in Scotland, Barnes moved to Australia with his parents and shot to
antipodean fame during the late seventies as the identifiable voice of
Cold Chisel, an Australia rock group whose pioneering brand of hard
edged R'n'B shot them to gold and platinum fame. With the eventual
demise of that group, Barnes went solo, issuing an impressive selection
of records each made indispensable by the sheer quality and size of
his voice. Freight Train Heart, with guest contributions from artists such
as Jonathan Cain, Neil Schon (both ex- Journey and now Bad English),
Mick Fleetwood and make his mark in global terms, although America
could well be the first to make that all- important acknowledgment.

JODI BONGIOVI (USA)
Somewhat distant cousin of the infinitely more famous Jon Bon Jovi (a.k.a.
Bongiovi), who arrived on the scene with a mildl amusing melodic rock
debut ready to cash in on the latter's fame and, presumably, fortune. It
failed, we are pleased to announce, on both counts.
Jodi Bongiovi (Alpha) 1989
KEVIN BORICH (Australia)
Kevin Borich: guitar, vocals
Tim Partridge: bass
John Watson: drums
Kevin Borich spent his formative years experiencing singles-chart success
in Australia as a member of the La De Das. In 1975 he formed the first of a
constantly changing backing band called the Keven Borich Express. The
line-up quoted seems to be his closest and favourite members.
A self-confessed R'n'B fanatic, Borich's music is a mixture of blues, boogie
and straight-down-the-line rocking. Although a reported nine albums have
been recorded, we only know of four. He has also appeared on some
compilation LPs and backed blues singer Renée Geyer.

MARGARET BECKER (USA)
The Reckoning is 'the' album set of her career thus far. Sadly she suffers from
being in the limited world of religious Christian sub- culture, whereas her
talent easily commands a much wider stage. She could well outpace even
a Pat Benatar and run with an Ann Wilson.

MICHAEL BOLTON (USA)
Consummate rock vocalist whose recent quasi-soul performances have
elevated his status to the level of international superstar. This, however,
has been no overnigh victory, with Bolton having undertaken active
recording work since the mid-seventies, developing different personae
and direction with each successive phase of his career. The one common
element remains his voice, a huge soulful entity with a depth and range
far beyond any would-be rival. In this respect Bolton is truly peerless.
During the mid-seventies, utilizing his real surname, Bolotin, he cut two
R'n'B-directioned albums for RCA Records. By 1978, however, he had
refined his singing and songwriting abilities, signing another solo deal
with Polyram who insisted subsequent product was released under
the band name of Blackjack. This liaison produced two albums of fairly
tepid AOR, Blackjack and Worlds Apart, the latter showing a pronounced
radio rock direction. By 1982 Michael had re-signed to CBS Records in
New York and set about developing his melodic AOR direction with a
splendid debut album and the quasi-perfect Everybody's Crazy LP in 1985
(produced by Neil Kernon). Two truly essential rock albums packed to
the brim with maximum melodic rock riffs, superlative hooks and perfect
vocals from a man who, by now, amongst the rock cognoscenti had been
labelled a quintessential performer.
With a slight change in direction, towards a more MOR rather than AOR
approach, Bolton finally struck home with US platinum success on The
Hunger. Soul Provider, a subtle vindication of his R'n'B/soul roots, turned
Bolton into a true superstar; he had now become a successful recording
artist in every record-selling territory across the world.

PAT BENATAR (USA)
A vocalist who works closely with her regular group guitarist Gerlado both
in a musical and personal direction, she was born in Brooklyn, New York in
1953. For a time she studied opera but found it boring, although she admits
it enabled her to learn basic singing technique and, in terms of rock, how
to sing rough without ruining the voice. A straightforward rocker with
considerable vocal dexterity, Benatar created an immediate impact with US
rock fans. Her second album was produced by Keith Olsen of Journey fame.
She became a worldwide success with her brand of rock successfully
charting in pop territory but by end of the decade she had not really become
a major star as might have been expected. A compilation set, Best Shors, was
issued in 1988

ROSEMARY BUTLER (USA)
Traditional assemblage of smooth, well-produced radio rock from a former
member of Fanny. Linda Ronstadt appears on backing vocals. There is
similarity to Pat Benatar and Fiona.
Rose (Capitol) 1984
RUSS BALLARD (UK)
Russ Ballard first came to prominence as the main driving - force behind
Argent. He split from them in 1974 to pursue a solo career and has since
released several albums to little acclaim. However, his songs have been
widely covered by heavy- metal acts who have plundered them and
produced some amazing results. Barnet Dogs and Into the Fire are full tilt
hard- rock albums full of steaming guitar work. The early albums are poor.

TERRY BROOKS (USA)
Terry Brooks: vocals, guitars
John Kotch: keyboards
Donnie Capetta: bass
Jim Chapman: drums
An amazing mixture of freak-out acid metal - a cross between Hendrix and
Hawkwind. Good stuff for strange people.

THE BIG F (USA)
Mark Christian: guitar
John Shreve: bass, vocals
Rob Donin: drums
LA's The Big F seem destined to replace Jane's Addiction as the most
pulsating rock 'n' roll animal to emerge from smog city in a long time.
Shreve obviously has no thoughts of retaining his vocals beyond the
present decade, while Donin's drum work is relentless in its power.
They sure make one hell of a sound.
The Big F (Elektra) 1990
THE BLOOD (UK)
Bill Sykes: vocals
J.J. Manson: guitar
Snake: guitar
Mark Brabbs: drums
Phil Butcher: keyboards
When punk meets metal it can sound like Motorhead but when metal meets
punk it can only sound like The Blood. Free from chasing the dubious
pleasures of chartdom or other commercial idioms, The Blood have harnessed
their raison d'être to create pure tonal noise. Beautiful. The band have
folded.
Se Parare Nex (Conquest) 1985
THE BOYZZ (USA)
Dirty Dan Buck: vocals
Anatole Halinkovitch: keyboards
Gil Pini: guitar
Mike Topkac: guitar
David Angel: bass
Kent Cooper: drums
A mean and moody biker band in the great Southern tradition, the music
of this band is a mixture of straight hard rock and boogie - a little like
Cream fused with Black Oak Arkansas. Apparently, they have recorded
a second album which has not been released yet. Some members of the
Boyzz went on to form B'zz.
Too Wild to Tame (Epic) 1978
TIM BOGERT (USA)
Bogert is one of the most experienced and heaviest bass players active in
the heavy metal arena. The list of bands he has been associated with reads
like a who's who of international mayhem - Vanilla Fudge, Cactus, B.B.A.,
Marcus, Boxer, Pipedream, etc. His own projects show a less heavy side
with emphasis on song rather than mindless riffing. Rick Derringer guests
on Master's Brew.
Progressions (Accord) 1981

TOMMY BOLIN (USA)
Legendary guitarist whose career is attracting adulation similar to that of
the late Paul Kossoff. Bolin is half-Red Indian and played with many late
1960s small-time outfits including Zephyr and Energy. He attracted attention
from many well-known musicians of the period. When Joe Walsh left the
James Gang he recommended that Bolin replace him after their iitial failure
with Domenic Troiano.
By the end of the 1960s, Bolin's style was almost perfected - a combination
of light jazzy solos and rapid-fire riffs which had a customary ring. After
the break-up of the James Gang he did much session work and began
work on his first solo album. In 1975 he was asked to join the disintegrating
Deep Purple and duly accepted. Teaser was released at the same time as
Deep Purple's Come Taste the Band album, and the former was a superb blend
of hard rock and light jazzy ballads.
Deep Purple split in 1976 and Bolin began work on Private Eyes, apparently
at this time under heavy drug addiction. The album was a much more
satisfying effort than Teaser. Unforunately on 4 December 1976, Bolin died
of multiple drug intoxication, aged just twenty-five. It was a tragic end to
someone who could have been the brightest new guitar hero since
Blackmore.
The 1990-issued set contains twenty-two songs from eleven albums, over
eight different labels, and one un-issued demo.
