非常有趣。作者的大意是，Neo象征救世主耶酥，这代表西方宗教，这点大部分人应该都同意；而最后和他交谈那个像刺猬般的机械体的面目，作者认为非常像东方的如来佛祖（我只看过一次电影，没有看清楚。大家以后可以细心点看，可能确实会觉得有几分形似）。这代表东方宗教。整个问题就变成了西方宗教vs东方宗教。他们的共同敌人就是Smith。Smith代表憎恨、罪恶，是魔鬼的化身，但同时他也是机器和人共同造就出来的。最后的结局是双方不得不达成一个协议－－其实也是妥协（compromise），来消灭共同的敌人，以获得共存。而这个敌人就是源于他们自身的各种罪恶。
虽然说作者并没有很严谨地论证，但确实是很有意思的一个想法。
可以说Matrix真是一部很有意思的电影。现代艺术不就是一直鼓励误解吗？

SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!!!!! (but read anyways if you plan on seeing the movie, so that you can watch out for what I'm about to say.)
Although I have no concrete evidence to back up my theory, I found after watching Matrix Revolutions that there was a specific theme of religious conflict and a possible resolution towards the end of the movie:
It has obviously been discussed that Neo is to symbolize Jesus Christ. It is pretty obvious when at the end of the movie, a large glowing golden cross comes out of Neo's chest. This covers Christianity, which is to say, the Western religions, though there is still the Eastern religions to be mentioned. I found that if you look carefully at the face of the giant spiked machine whom Neo talks to at the end, it closely resembles a fat, round face, which in my opinion was supposed to resemble Buddha. This represents the Eastern Religions. Think about it. Western religions vs. Eastern Religions. Now take this further and ask what they are fighting for. Power. This is plain and simple. Despite who is "just," both humans and machines are fighting for power. The humans want the power to free people from the matrix (just as Western religions desire to free people from their "sins") and the machines want the power to grow and expand (just as Eastern religions desire to grow and expand on their "cosmic path" or "eternal cycle"). Now, in the movie, what do they do? They strike a deal...but why you must ask? Well the answer is simple. They both want to get rid of Smith, for he is causing both of them equally more trouble than even they are causing each other. This is because of what Smith
symbolically is. He is the embodiement of hate, malice, pride, intolerance, and in a word, evil. Smith is the product of the machines in a sense, because he was created by them and yet he is destroying their cause by corrupting all the people that the machines has created, who dwell in the matrix. He is also the product of humans for the fact that he is half of the essence of Neo, and possesses free will and self-determining goals, like a human, now that he is not techincally "working" for the machines. So basically, Smith is the evil and corruption of both sides, who is doing harm to humans and machines alike. I personally think that this is presenting a forewarning message. It is saying that although there is much apparant conflict between the Western and Eastern religions, they are both infected and damaged by this "virus" of despicable evil. Ultimately, both sides will fall at the hand of this evil if they are unwillingly to put aside their pride and their differences for a time and compromise. Both sides will inevitably be destroyed by this shared enemy unless they agree that it must be stopped. Once it is stopped, we can go our separate ways and do not have to continue fighting, but at least we humans, united or not, will not be in any imminent danger of our intolerance for each others beliefs. Thus the end; no side really won, but the war ended nevertheless once.
