I passed the CCNA test today with a score of 77. I'm not reall proud o
f the score, I thought I did better than that. The test divides the qu
estions into 3 categories on the score print out. Introduction to Cisc
o Router Config, Advanced Cisco Router Config, and Cisco LAN Switch Co
nfig. I got 75% on Introduction, and 100% of the other 2 categories, b
ut only 77 on the test. Maybe Cisco gives you partial answer credit on
the categories, and not on the final score. Anyway, here are my thoug
hts. A LOT OF OSI. I still think some of the OSI questions are sort of
stupid, but they are there. I had the question that said SESSION inst
ead of PRESENTATION layer that is in TQUIZ. I had a question that list
ed the 5 steps that occur to put the bits on the wire. It listed the 5
steps, and you had to pick the correct rearrangement of them from a l
ist. There were about 10 IP addressing questions. Some were a little t
ough. There was one that gave you a subnet address of 172.30.25.6 (clo
se), and gave you a subnet mask of 255.255.255.224. It said that you w
ere wanting to test an address what was going to be used with a wildca
rd mask to only allow subnets 16 thru 31 to pathrough the router. Some
of the possible answers were things like:
0.0.7.255
0.0.15.255
0.0.25.255
172.30.xx.255
172.30.xx.255 0.0.0.255
It didn't talk about access lists in the question. I choose the 0.0.15
.255 answer, because it allowed the last 4 bits of the 3rd octet throu
gh. I really did not know this one. There was a question that gave you
an IPX router config with one access list applied to the out of one i
nterface. SOmething like,
access-list 800 permit 3a 4d -1
int e0
ipx network 3b
ipx access-group 800 out
ipx e1
ipx network 3a
ipx e2
ipx network 5c
you were asked to choose 2 answers from 5
All traffic from network 5c will not get routed
The access list is a filter applied to an outgoing interface
Taffic from 3a will get routed out interface eo
That't the best I can remember on that on.
On one IP question it gave you a class B address and said to "assume"
the default subnet mask. I used 255.255.255.0, because it made sense i
n the context of the question. I wasn't sure there was a "default" sub
net mask, I thought you had to specify
what you wanted.
255.255.255.0 was what they expected you to use.
I had the question were you needed to know the IDSN standards. E telep
hone system, I concetps and terms, and Q switching. The question I had
, Q, was the correct answer.
I had the obligatory question on matching up the Cisco key words with
the encapsulations.
802.3 - novel-ether
802.2 - sap
Ethernet_II - arpa
Ethernet_SNAP - snap
TokenRing_SNAP - snap
You had to choose the 3 correct matches from a list.
There were a couple of IP addressing questions with 255.255.255.224 su
bnet masks.
There was one with 255.255.255.127.
One of the 255.255.255.224 questions asked you to pick the correct hos
t name range for the 48 subnet.
One question asked for the 4 ways routers stop loops.
I chose
Split Horizons
Route Poison
Holddown timer
then i had to chose between
Triggered updates
STF algorithms
and a counting to infinity answer
I should have picked the counting to infinity i think.
I ended up making my 4th choice the STF algorithm.
I'll post more info if I can think of more. The TQUIZ helped a lot. Pr
obably 10 or 15 questions right off of it at least.
