昨夜翻出书柜里的《英美文学选读》来读。书是搬家时找出来的，印有另一城市某大学图书馆的藏书章，外面已显得半旧不新，里面却还干净整洁，没有弄皱之处。非我购来，一定是老婆带过来的，但根据她的英语水平推测不会是她的书。也许是她从前的室友或同学的。 翻开书，看到扉页上歪歪扭扭地题着几句诗： 夜静声偏朗， 得意高歌， 唱得千山响。 自家拍掌， 无人赏。 嘿，好高的兴致。诗行是竖着排的，常规的阅读顺序是从右到左。我尝试从左到右读，居然也很有意境： 无人赏， 自家拍掌， 唱得千山响。 得意高歌， 夜静声偏朗。 书里的篇目都是熟悉的。乔叟、沙翁、彭斯、朗费罗、弗罗斯特……都是很喜欢的，尤其喜欢现代的诗人，特别是美国的几位著名诗人。学英语的时候，某天朗读弗罗斯特的Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening，感觉到强烈的韵律感，从此喜欢上了英诗，读了不少，也背了不少，对英语的提高大有益处。 昨天是周末，次日不用上班，就读到深夜。当时在想，那位仁兄，阅读时是否怀着相同的兴致。也许这时他也在捧着另一本读本，在津津有味地读着。要不是这几句提诗，我不会这样想。 Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening Whose woods these are I think I know. His house is in the village, though; He will not see me stopping here To watch his woods fill up with snow. My little horse must think it queer To stop without a farmhouse near Between the woods and frozen lake The darkest evening of the year. He gives his harness bells a shake To ask if there is some mistake. The only other sound's the sweep Of easy wind and downy flake.
