DG proudly announces the signing of an exclusive five-year contract with the 20-year old, Chinese-born pianist Lang Lang, whose superb artistry, personal charisma and unabashed joy in music-making are winning over audiences, critics ?and his fellow musicians ?worldwide.
Lang Lang first worldwide recording for Deutsche Grammophon is scheduled for release in July 2003, and will feature the Tchaikovsky B flat minor and Mendelssohn G minor piano concertos, with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Daniel Barenboim. Proudly the first Chinese pianist to record with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Lang Lang is also scheduled to perform the Mendelssohn Concerto in the opening concert of New York Mostly Mozart Festival, to be broadcast live by PBS, coinciding with his CD release.
Commenting on the new signing, Christopher Roberts, President, Deutsche Gram璵o璸hon and Universal Classics & Jazz International said: "Lang Lang is one of classical music's truly bright young stars. He is a tireless performer of global stature who offers a unique combination of energy, talent, and media savvy. We welcome him to Deutsche Grammophon and Universal."
Lang Lang, in turn, issued the following statement: "Ever since I was two years old, I grew up listening to Deutsche Grammophon's great artists and their top-line recordings and have always felt a close emotional connection to this superb label. My lifetime dream has always been to record with the top orchestras and conductors of the world. Today I have the honor of becoming a Deutsche Grammophon artist. I am thrilled to see this dream become a reality and eagerly look forward to working with everyone on these projects. My hope is to share my passion for music with more people, especially of the younger generation, and bring peace and joy to all!"
