Dear young friends, pls read the following:
THE American Educational Testing Service(ETS)creates tests used by
American universities,such as the TOFEL, TWE, GRE and GMAT. These tests
are also commonly used in other English-speaking countries, including
Canada, Britain, and Australia.
The TOFEL( Test of English as a Foreign Language )is the most often-
required test for a Chinese student who wishes to study in the USA or
Canada. A non-native English speaker should take the TOFEL in his own
country before applying to study abroad.It is offered four times a year,
and the results are valid for up to two years after the test date.
Although each school has its own standards of enrolment, most require
a minimum TOFEL score of 550. Some departments, such as English, demand
a score of over 600.
The TOFEL consists of three sections: Listening Comprehension,Structure
& Written Expression, and Reading Comprehension. Sometimes a TWE (Test of
Written English ) is offered as an optional section.
In the Listening Comprehension Section, candidates must listen to dia-
logues and lectures on tape and complete 50 test questions within 30
minutes. The tape is played just once.
The structure & Written Expression section contains 40 questions, which
must be completed in 25 minutes. It mainly tests for ability in grammar.
In the Reading Comprehension section, candidates are given 55 minutes
to read 5-6 passages and answer questions about the passages.
For the TWE, candidates have 30 minutes to respond to an essay question.
The results for this section are ranked from 1 to 6.
It takes about three-and-a-half hours to complete the test.
