According to a team press release, U.S. Postal Service
riders Lance Armstrong and Tyler Hamilton were hit by a
car while training in France on Tuesday. Both suffered
minor injuries and were taken to a nearby hospital, but
both returned to their Nice homes the same night.
"[Armstrong and Hamilton] were involved in a head-on crash
with a vehicle while training on a rural road outside of
Nice, France, yesterday afternoon," read the release.
"Armstrong took the brunt of the impact with the car,
completely destroying his bicycle and breaking his helmet
into several pieces. However, the two-time Tour de France
champion suffered only bruises to his back and was able to
spend the night at home following a trip to a local hospital,
where x-rays to his back and neck proved negative.
Hamilton's injuries to his elbow and knee were minor and he
also spent the night at home.
"Armstrong and Hamilton, along with teammate Frankie Andreu,
were descending during a training ride on a country road
outside of Nice when a car coming the opposite way missed
a turn and ran straight into them. Andreu was able to
avoid the car and did not crash."
