Yes, I am revealing to you the truth. I am a billionaire.
Let me explain some basic principles of money and possessions.
An asset is valued by one of two methods:
1. What someone is willing to pay for it.
2. What you are willing to sell it for.
All valuation methods boil down to one of those two methods.
Say for example, you have a car with a retail value of
$30,000.00. If you advertised it in the newspaper, this is the
highest someone would most likely pay for it. That is your
car's retail book value.
Let's also say it has tremendous sentimental value to you.
Your first child was born in this car on the way to the
hospital. Your marriage proposal was made in this car.
You have labored long customizing it with sound systems and
other gadgets.
The retail value is $30,000.00 but there is no way you would
sell it for $30,000.00. Its actual value to you is what you
would sell it for.
Maybe not $30,000.00,
but suppose someone offered you $40,000.00.
$50,000.00?
$60,000.00? Well, now that's a different story.
You figure you will just take a picture of the car and put it in
the scrapbook.
The book value is $30,000.00; the value to you is $60,000.00.
How much would you sell your left little finger for?
What? "What kind of crazy sick question is that?" you ask.
Play along, assume it's legal.
Well, how much?
$100,000.00?
No, definitely not, it would leave my left hand disfigured.
A million?
Did you say A Million?
For my left little finger?
Hmmm...
Some of you are thinking on that.
Some are saying yes and some no to the little finger sale.
Not that anyone would pay that much for a little finger, but I
am trying to get you to see valuation by the second method.
How much you are willing to sell it for.
That's how much it is worth to you.
Now to the next question.
How much for both eyes?
A million?
Definitely not!
A BILLION?
No! Still no. I would be blind.
I wouldn't sell both of my eyes for a billion dollars.
Most of you are echoing those statements.
Not for a billion dollars!
YOU have an asset that's worth more to you than a billion
dollars. You actually have several assets worth more to you
than a billion dollars.
