6. 在旅館裡： (at a hotel/motel) motel 係由 motor 和 hotel 兩個字組成，指可在門口附近停車的旅社，通常多在郊區，且有廚房設備；而hotel多半在城內，停車較不便。到達旅館後，你可向櫃台的服務員說：
Good evening, I need a single room for overnight. How much will it be? (我要一間單人房過夜，多少錢？)
對方也許說：
Seventy dollars plus tax per night. (每夜七十元，另加稅。) 或者你說：
I would like to have a double bedroom for two days. (我要住兩天有雙人床的房間)
也可加一句：
I would like to have a good view from the window. (我要靠窗戶有景色的房間)
你決定後，可以說：
Okay, I will take it. What is the room number? (好，我要。是幾號房間？)
回答可能是：
Room 204 on the second floor. Here is the key and the bell-boy will take your baggage for you. (二樓 204 房間，這是鑰匙，服務生會替你拿行李。)
〔註〕：bell-boy 或 bell-hop，是指在旅館為旅客提行李的服務生。在火車站戴紅色帽子的服務生叫 red-cap；在機場的服務生叫 sky-cap；只要他們為你提行李，都要給小費 (tip) ，如果不要他們服務，也要客氣的說：No, thank you！你也可說：
Well, I think I can take the luggage myself. Thank you, anyway. (我想我自己可以拿，謝謝。)
服務人員也會說：
That's fine！ (那也好！)
假如你想知道明天什麼時候需要離開旅館，也可以問：
What time do I have to check out tomorrow？ (註：check in 係指登記住進旅館；check out 指離開旅館，不過向圖書館借書，也叫 check out。)
回答可能是：
By eleven tomorrow morning. At the same time, please return your key to this office. (明早十一點前。同時請把鑰匙交還這裡。) (by eleven = before eleven o'clock)
你若還有其他要問的事情，例如：
Do you have central air in the room? Can I adjust the room temperature myself? (房間有自動空調嗎？我自己可以調節房間的溫度嗎？)
或：
Do you have a color T.V. with cable? How many channels can I use for free? (你有電纜的彩色電視嗎？有幾個頻道我可以免費收看？)
(注意：美國人喜歡安靜，較有公德心，不輕易打擾別人，所以收音機或電視，不可開得太大聲，以免影響他人。)
或者問：
May I use the telephone in my room? (我能在房間裡使用電話嗎？)
對方或許說：
Of course, but you will have to pay 50 cents for each local call. (當然可以，不過每打一次當地的電話，你要付五毛錢。)
或：
May I use the phone for long-distance calls? (我能打長途電話嗎？)
對方也許說：
Well, we prefer our customers using our public phone in the hallway for any long-distance calls. (我們倒希望旅客使用我們走廊上的公共電話打長途電話)
或：
Do you have a cafeteria here? (這裡有自助餐廳嗎？)
也許對方說：
Yes, there is a cafe downstairs, serving three meals a day. (有的。在樓下的自助餐廳，每天供應三餐)
(註：public phone = pay phone 係指要付硬幣的公共電話；cafe = cafeteria 即自助餐廳，有些人也付小費。)
或者問：
Do you have a tour bus near your motel? I would like to see some scenic spots here. (你們附近有旅遊車嗎？我想看些風景區。)
或者問：
Do you make“wake up” calls? (你們有「電話叫醒旅客」的服務嗎？)
(註：“Wake up” call 是指有些旅館，在一定時間內打電話叫醒旅客，以免睡過頭。)
也許對方會說：
Yes, we do. What time shall we call? (有的，你要我們什麼時候打電話叫醒你？)
你可以說：
Around ten tomorrow morning. (明早十點左右)
對方也許說：
Well, we will try. (aroud ten = about ten o'clock)
萬一你的房間的電視出毛病，門上的鎖也壞了，也可向服務生說：
Excuse me, there is something wrong with the T.V. in my room. The door lock does not work, either.
對方可能說：
I will send someone to fix them for you. (我會派人為你修理) (to fix = to repair)
需要時，你也可以問服務員：
May I have a roll-away (cot) for my child? Also, could I have an extra pillow and several bath towels, too? (我可以為孩子加張活動床嗎？我可以多一個枕頭和幾條浴巾嗎？)
(註：旅館裡有單人床「twin bed」或「single bed」；雙人床「double bed」或「full bed」；也有特大床「queen size」或「king size」。需要時，可多加一個摺床「folding bed」，或「roll-away」或行軍床「cot」，不過單人房多半不准住兩位以上成年人。)
你外出時，也可對服務員說：
If anyone calls while I am not here, will you please take a message for me？ (我不在時，如果有人來電話，請為我記下留言好嗎？)
或者說：
If anyone looks for me, please tell him (her) I will be back around five. (如果有人找我，請告訴他，我大約五點鐘回來。)
你回到旅館後，可問服務員：
Maam, did anyone look for me? (有人找我嗎？)
服務員也許說：
No, as far as I know. (據我所知，沒有。)
你也可以問：
Do you have car service to the airport? I have to catch the airplane tomorrow morning at eleven. (你們有到機場的汽車服務嗎？我明早要趕十一點的航機。)
服務員可能說：
Yes, we have a van which will take you to the airport. (有的，我們有一部大型的汽車送你到機場。)
(註：van 是一種較大的汽車，通常可坐八至十人，有時供做旅行之用。)
你可再問：
Is there a charge for the car service？ (註：car service 是指許多旅館有專車接送旅客到機場的服務。)
服務員也許說：
Yes, ten dollars per person. (每人十元)
你可回答：
That's fine. Thanks a lot. (好，多謝！)
