Today I went to 2 markets and a minority village.
the couple from Germany-France, the girl from
the UK, and a young girl from Germany and I went
on a day trip. the first market wasn't that
spectacular but the second had many minority
peop[e there. Lots of good photos. I bought a
pair of very primitive folk art sandals. The
girl from the UK had her wallet stolen with
100yuan (about 12usd) and her credit card. Later
we drove to a small village and had lunch. The
food is always delicious, mostly vegetables and a
small amount of meat. later we had to trek over
and down a hill to the minority village. I took
lots of interesting photos. Thomas, the guy from
germany, has a very nice camera but somehow his
film was not rolled onto the sprocket properly so
he didn't get any photos. The people were making
perfume with flowers and also some eucalyptus
leaves. We came back a easier way. these
willages are sometimes located in a small niche
of valley and mountain but there is usually a
road that leads to it. We got back to Dali about
7pm and the others went for a massage. Later we
went out to eat. Tomorrow, the French-German
couple, the girl from Germany and I will leave
for Lijang, about 2.5 hours north. I will leave
for Kunming to catch my plane on thursday so i
don't have a lot of time there but it should be
very interesting. Then it will be on to
Guangzhou and teaching. I look forward to
everyone's travel stories. I did buy some lovely
batiked blue tablecloths. If you have a map of
China handy, you can take a gander of where these
places are. SW China in Yunnan province. I also
saw a temple of pigs today. the pigs arrive at
the slaughter house nd stay overnight before they
are killed. But they come and pray for the pigs
to enter the next life as humans. I am getting
some good exercise. Yesterday the german girl
and I went bicycling around the large lake-erhai
and took photos of the village and harbor people.
the streets are similar to cobblestones and it
made the riding a little rough but it was a good
workout and I was really tired when at the end of
the day. we met some people in the small market
by the harbor and they were very interested in
having their photos taken. of course, they want
us to send the photos to them, which is a samll
price to pay for the opportunity to take their
picture. I hope everything is well with you.
