Bandit was recorded with a completely different line- up including Jim
Diamond on vocals (PHD) and Cliff Williams of Home and AC/DC.
Their music at that time was blues- based hard rock. McIntosh assembled
the above line- up for Partners in Crime in which they played a very
classy brand of US- style radio rock.

This is regarded by some as America's heaviest band. Band was formed
was back in 1972 and they produced three LPs which seem to decrease
in loudness. Bang was regarded by most as the best album, but all three
are worth buying.

Classy low- life, almost sleaze- oiginated, rock outfit who cleverly combine
Aerosmith sass rock pretensions with the psychedelic metal clout of The
Cult. Excellent feel, punchy songs, and tasteful image make Bang Tango
an act of tremendous potential who really ought to be doing better business
by far.

Lack- lustre power metal outfit whose initial offering, 'Cry in the Night', on
the independent label Roadrunner, actually displayed some degree of
originality. Their subsequent major label debut (Titanium is an Atlantic
Records custom label) failed to capitalize on existing foundations and fell
into complete obscurity.

Formed in September 1966 from two Oldham blues and soul groups - The
Blues Keepers (John Lees and Woolly Wolstenholme) and Heart and Soul
and the Wickeds (Les Holroyd and Mel Pritchard). In 1968 EMI released
their first single, 'Early Morning', on the Parlophone label. When EMI's new
progressive rock label Harvest was launched in 1969 BJH were among
the first signings. Wolstenhome left in June 1979 after the band headlined
four major festivals in Germany. The band have been sadly neglected in
their home country but have found some compensation from considerable
French and enormous German popularity. As a 'live' act they play much
harder than some of their albums suggest, with Pritchard's fine drumming
technique propelling things along. His knowledge of percussion is a vital
part of the group's sound. Lees and Holroyd write the group's material and
arrangements. Over the years they have contributed some of the best songs
in contemporary rock. BJH could easily out hard- rock many established
bands if they bothered to and it is surprising that they have not. But they
have gone their own way. Their 1987 album was followed by a massive
open- air concert behind the Iron Curtain in East Berlin's Treptower Park.
Glasnost was a 'live' album that came from this event. 1991 sees their
twentieth- fifth anniversary, a remarkable feat, especially when seen against
the backcloth of comparative home indifference, but at least they have
been rewarded elsewhere.

One of the best and certainly heaviest of all European metal acts. The
guitar work is simply unbelievable and the songs stand firm despite
the garbled Trust- like lyrics. In the mid- eighties they almost lost
themselves, but returned in 1987. The recommended album is Volumen
Brutal.

Formed during the early eighties in California as part of the rising Christian
heavy metal scene, Barren Cross forged an intensely metallic style similar
to, say, Iron Maiden. A 1955- released self- financed mini- LP titled 'Believer'
was later picked up and released by the Christian Starsong label in 1986
under a new title and with additional freshly recorded tracks. Their second
album signalled a slight shift in style, more melodic and accomplished, as
well as a new label.

their material is Scorpion- like heaby metal.

Incredibly heavy dooom/thrash metal always approaching the epic, and
always louder than similar rivals such as Trouble and Candlemas. Practically
a one- man offensive, Quothorn employs a variety of players for musical
support with all productions undertaken by the mysterious. Boss. All album
are recommended but only Blood, Fire, Death is beyond the very impressive.

Originally called Meridian (name changed in an effort not to confuse with
Melidian), from New Jersey, the band recorded their debut album with
multi- talented songwriter/producer Jack Ponti (himself a one- time member
of Surgin). With the brilliantly evocative vocals of Keeling (like a cross
between David Coverdale and Sammy Hagar) the band forge a melodic
sound not too dissimilar to Whitesnake, Scorpions and Def Leppard.

Essentially an extension of the blues boogie onslaught by Cactus, a group
Beck formed with Appice. Beck left the band after BBA and a second recorded
studio album was never released. Live in Japan is a Japanese release which
is a milestone in heavy blues.

trio of eccentric, irregular free thinkers. At times close to Black Sabbath,

Ostensibly the same unit as Bitch, undergoing a name change in 1988 to
enable career growth with a less raucous sound, Betsy, vocalist, having
ditched leather S&M stage wear in favour of pretty-girl looks with music
to match. The album's failure has left some doubt whether the band are
still operating.

Terrific melodic radio rock with highly attractive hooklines and sustained
cranked-up axework. Highly recommended.
Near the end of the eighties Byrom resurfaced in New Frontier and
Chauncey with .38 Special.

This band has gone through a number of line-up changes since their
inception and, as well as their debut LP, their material has turned up
on a number of compilation albums. Musically, they are very hard rock.
They appeared to have an 'off' and 'on' state of play during much of
the eighties, with various personnel changes. In 1988, the Toomeys
formed Flash Point, with their own recorded and distributed album
No Point of Reference, but in meant little. Invaders first appeared in America,
1986, on King Klassic.
